Climate change: Pakistani expert appointed UN adviser

ISLAMABAD: UN-World Meteorological Organisation’s Secretary-General Michel Jarraud has appointed Dr Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry as his special adviser for Asia. Dr Chaudhry an eminent climate change expert is presently working with UNDP Islamabad as a National Climate Change Policy Expert. Whgile talking to The Express Tribune Dr Chaudhry said that 2015 would also see the adoption of sustainable development goals (SDGs) as a replacement of millennium development goals (MDGs) and a new global treaty on climate change. All these instruments should enable actions at all levels to manage disaster risk and climate change and find ways to facilitate sustainable development. According to Dr Chaudhry there is a consensus that the impacts of climate change will hinder global efforts to eradicate poverty.
