KARACHI:

The provincial director general of Pakistan Rangers, Major General Bilal Akbar, ordered an inquiry into the raid conducted by the paramilitary force on the house of daily Nawa-i-Waqt’s resident editor Saeed Khawar

In a meeting with the six-member delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) at the Ranger’s headquarters on Thursday, Akbar termed the incident as ‘unfortunate’.

“The raid was [mistakenly] conducted due to incorrect information and that Khawar was not involved in any undesired activity,” he said.

Earlier on Sunday, around 20 Rangers’ personnel raided Khawar’s residence in North Karachi in his absence and kept the premises surrounded for about one hour.

On receiving the information through the family members the resident editor rushed to his house. The official involved in the raid later told Khawar they had conducted the raid at a ‘wrong place’ due to some ‘misunderstanding’.
