Mismanagement?: Sindh seeking subsidy to export wheat
Sindh may export the 660,000 tonnes of excess stock of wheat
KARACHI:
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah will write a letter to the prime minister, demanding that the province be granted a subsidy so that it may export the 660,000 tonnes of excess stock of wheat and avert a heavy financial loss. This was decided in a meeting at the chief minister house on Tuesday. The meeting was convened to discuss the disposal of the surplus wheat. “The wrong decision of the federal government to import wheat has landed Sindh into trouble. Our warehouses are packed with the surplus wheat. This will create difficulties to repay bank loans.” The meeting was attended by the provincial finance minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, minister for health Jam Mehtab Dahar, food secretary Saeed Ahmed Awan and other officials. The officials also decided to conduct an analysis of the substandard imported wheat to find out whether it was fit for human consumption.
