Officials from the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) said that the person was not wearing a suicide vest.
A police officer who was on duty near the area of the incident, said that the suspect came out of a Rawalpindi bound passenger van, when the vehicle was intercepted.
“When the police tried to arrest him, he started running. We fired at him while he hurled a grenade in retaliation,” the police official said.
“The police chased him in the fields but the suspect entered a close-ended street where he pulled grenade, put it on the ground and threw himself on it, blowing himself up,” the policeman said.
Five policemen received minor injuries in the blast. They were identified as Muhammad Iftikhar, Muhammad Amjid, Nasir, Mehmood and Muhammad Hussain.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan condemned the incident and ordered the police to provide detailed report of the blast.

@Stranger: For the most part its not just whipping boy India, it holds true. Your country has dispute with all its neighbours and the only country which gives them a kind reply is us. It played a key role in East Pakistan and its trying is its best through Afghanistan in Balouchistan. But this is coming to an end, with our offensive in Wazirsitan.

@Shariq: Army court does not capture terrorist.Purpose of military court is to send culprits behind the bar and pronounce just decision in quick jiffy.Army is the only organisation in Pakistan trusted by people
@Shariq: Army not capable then who is capable? If you are not happy with the army then change your flag
@Shariq: there is a reason why the van got intercepted right? Intelligence is working i guess....!!!
Good work by the police.. Keep it up and may you regain your esteem and trust
@Stranger: You sound very silly with the comment you made.
@Shariq, did you notice that the bomber was intercepted?
A whole hour has passed since this news has broken and not one finger has pointed to the 'obvious culprit' , your fav whipping boy - India.
Even after Military Courts - I thought now there will be no more terrorism. Intelligence capability would be questioned?
And life goes on and on ...
