Missing the mark

Students living on outskirts of major cities deprived of quality education.

ISLAMABAD:

The state of primary and secondary education in rural Pakistan is deplorable. Seventy per cent of Pakistan’s population lives in rural areas and the minority who are able to afford schooling in these areas must contend with a standard of education that is significantly below par.

The educational infrastructure run by the Pakistan government is crumbling. A large number of schools located away from major cities do not possess adequate buildings, clean drinking water or toilet facilities. Private schools, largely located in major urban centers, cater to those who are fortunate enough to afford education here.
