Rain Record : Wheat yield on full bloom

The current spell of rain would positively affect the ‘barani areas’

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of National Food Security and Research Deputy Food Security Commissioner Dr Imtiaz Ali Gopang  has said that the recent spell of rainfall has benefitted the yield of major staple food crop, with wheat standing over millions of acres of land across the country.“Although the current spell of rain was the usual it would positively affect the ‘barani areas’ which contributes over 7% in total output, said Gopang. He added that the crop was facing severe water stress conditions and the rain has provided enough moisture to wheat crop for flourishing which would also help to improve production. According to Gopang, the meteorological office has also forecasted that there are chances of another rain spell with cloudy weather conditions across the country. He said that wheat crop in some districts of Sindh including Mirpur Khas and some areas of Tharparkar are at the reaping stage, adding that according to the field reports harvesting is likely to start from the end of next month.
