It was the ultimate star-studded occasion that was just as much about setting fashion statements as it was the awards. While many stars dazzled in sophisticated designer gowns and stunning heels at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, others didn’t quite make the impression they were hoping for. The red carpet sadly was awash with stars suffering serious style faux pas.

Lana Del Rey

Despite wearing a vintage Travilla dress, vintage shoes, a Ferragamo clutch, and XIV Karats diamonds, the songstress failed to impress. The 29-year-old, who loves to experiment with her style resembled a washed out 70s mermaid more than anything else. The turquoise-mint gown did nothing to complement the star’s porcelain skin and the ruched waistline was far from flattering. With her lovely mane back-combed a little too much, the Young and Beautiful singer looked more frumpy than fashionable.

Kate Mara

The House of Cards star wore a striking sleeveless scarlet Miu Miu gown but ruined it with horrific accessorising. The star teamed the beautiful hued number with a thick tan belt that weighed down an otherwise delicate dress, making the ensemble appear tacky. Ditching her usual sleek make-up technique for an overly bronzed complexion and nude lip was just a major slip-up. If that wasn’t enough, the actor tried to work a messy side part and failed miserably.

Keira Knightley

It may have taken a lot of workmanship to craft the newly pregnant actor’s custom Chanel dress, but the butterfly-print design still looked more a night gown than a red carpet dress. The neutral so-called dress did nothing to emit a graceful vibe. Though her ensemble was a disappointment, The Imitation Game star did her make-up brilliantly. Looking radiant in a crimson lip and flushed cheeks, she’s surely got a pregnancy glow going on.

Tina Fey

Why Tina, why?! The custom Antonio Berardi gown looked more like a bejewelled, puffy apron. The ankle-length bubble dress was harsh, and just flat out missed the mark. Bridal wear gone terribly wrong, the tulip shape of the gown was unappealing and her dark shoes looked too heavy for the Admission star’s petite frame. We must admit though, we loved the black and white palette and the bustier top would have done wonders with a better bottom half.
