As part of the Aao Parhao nationwide campus drive, students of Greenwich University organised a ceremony on Wednesday to honour and thank their teachers.
The event kicked off with a promo of Aao Parhao, the theme song for the Express Media Group initiative launched in collaboration with Ilm Ideas. This was followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem.
On the occasion, Assistant Professor Tahira Khan shared her experience as a teacher with the participants. Stressing the need for promoting the importance of teaching, Professor Khan said, “Every person is in a phase of learning, from any other person, all the time. We should work to highlight the importance of the teaching profession.”
Faculty of Management Sciences Dean Sultan Mughal thanked the Express Media Group for taking the initiative for teachers.
“It is a great initiative to promote the profession of teaching because in Pakistan every child wants to be a doctor or engineer, very few want to become a teacher,” said Greenwich University Brand Ambassador Usman Hafeez. He added the Aao Parhao campaign is effective and will give good results.
Mohsin Laghari, the marketing head of the campaign, presented certificates and awards of recognition to the university’s teachers.
Speaking to Express News after the event, a teacher said, “We should focus on those who teach at government institutes; initiatives like this are the right path to increasing respect for the profession in society.”

She added a real change can be brought about only when educated and dedicated people enter the profession. “We have to change this mindset of the public that someone who cannot get into any profession becomes a teacher.”
Haris Khan, a Greenwich student, said the purpose of the event was to thank their teachers for their hard work in shaping the future of the country. “Aao Parhao has given us a chance to thank our teachers in a respectful manner.”
