It's official: Sherani accepts CII chairmanship

JUI-F accepts chairmanship for Maulana Sherani after fresh notification states term is for three years.

The Jamiat Ulamae Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Thursday accepted the chairmanship of the Council of Islamic Ideology for senator Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani.

According to Express 24/7 reporter Muhammad Kazim, the JUI-F accepted the chairmanship after a fresh notification was issued stating the term was for three years.

JUI-F had earlier rejected the chairmanship because the notification issued by the government stated that Sherani had been appointed chairman ‘till further orders.’ The party said that under Article 228 of the constitution, the chairman of the CII is appointed for a period of three years, and the notification does not state this.

Sherani had been appointed chairman after a long interval following the retirement of Dr Khalid Masood in May this year.

Umayr Masud | 13 years ago | Reply As per the constitution he could not be appointed the chairman for 3 years , as he has been a a member since an year already article 228-4 clearly states that. I am hoping the civil society may challenge the appointment in court , he doesn't have the 15 years of research and his dars-e-nazami degree is doubtful as well. Plus an active deobandi , political party leader. (WOW peoples party you people are crazy about the law ) But all that aside, no matter which government is in power the chairman of the CII can only be removed by vote of no confidence of ALL the members, meaning JUI-F will not let this seat go .
