LAHORE:

Several students of the Punjab University rejoiced on reading a Facebook post that the university would be closed till January 19.

However, the Punjab University administration told The Express Tribune that the “news”, shared on Monday, had been posted on a fake Facebook page that claimed to be an official page of the University of the Punjab. They said they had received no official instructions to this effect. “We will contact the authorities to trace the IP address of the moderator of the page and try the person responsible under cyber crime,” the PU’s PRO said. He said students must visit the university’s official website www.pu.edu.pk for all updates. The Facebook page carried a message claiming that the Punjab government had issued directions that the Punjab University’s teaching departments, institutes, centres, and constituent colleges/schools will remain closed till January 19th on account of winter break and will reopen on January 20th.
