With the looming January 7 deadline one day away, the selectors are yet to decide on three slots: the third opener, a front-line spinner and a fast-bowler.
Selectors including Muhammad Akram, Shoaib Mohammad, Wajahatullah Wasti and Saleem Yousuf have been monitoring the ongoing Pentangular Cup during which the likes of Shoaib Malik, Muhammad Rizwan and Raza Hasan have impressed with their performances, thus forcing them to reconsider their options.
Waqar is pushing for the inclusion of seamer Ehsan Adil for his ability to move the ball both ways, which could be a big advantage in Australia and New Zealand with new balls from both ends.
“Waqar rates Adil highly because he knows the art of moving the ball and wants him in the final 15,” an official close to the matter told The Express Tribune. “But the selectors are keen on carrying all-rounders Bilawal Bhatti and Anwar Ali.”
Former skipper Malik is likely to make a comeback on the basis of his performances in the Pentangular Cup as he gives the team management the option of including an all-rounder. His off-spin bowling can be beneficial in case Hafeez fails to get clearance.
Meanwhile, Raza has brought himself into contention with a five-wicket haul which included a hat-trick and will compete with Yasir Shah for the spinner’s position.
“First Yasir was the front-runner for the spinner’s slot but Raza has emerged as a competitor by taking five wickets, although luck played its part as the batsmen threw away their wickets,” added the official.
There are also outside chances that either Muhammad Sami or Sohail Khan could be drafted in from outside the 30 probables to strengthen the pace attack.
Haris eyes role of finisher in World Cup
Haris Sohail, who has emerged as Pakistan’s new all-rounder after Hafeez was suspended from bowling, has said that he is keen to play the role of finisher at the World Cup.
“I’m aiming to play the role of finisher at the 2015 World Cup because that is something I’ve been doing so far in domestic cricket,” said Haris. “There are a lot of expectations from now to deliver with both bat and ball and I’ve increased my training to cope with that. The team management has always believed in my abilities as a bowler, especially Waqar and Mushtaq Ahmed, which has boosted my morale.”

If they don't include one of the Akmal brothers then how can PCB make some money on the side with the help of bookies?
Fawwad Alam is the most conspicuously obvious choice because of his trenchant batting. Not to play him would be a travesty of justice. @ Fahad: Saleem Yousuf is an accomplished wicket-keeper batsman who played under Imran Khan and if I remember correctly also under Javed Miandad.
No Fawad Alam ?? This is criminal. How can Fawad not be good enough to be in the Pakistan team ???
Plz add Umer Akmal because he is Match winer
How oh how can you not take Fawad Alam, the only stable batsman in Pakistan?
Muhammad Rizwan, Ehasan Adil & Yasir Shah should be inducted in 15 Squad
Selectors including Muhammad Akram, Shoaib Mohammad, Wajahatullah Wasti and Saleem Yousuf Muhammad Akram : A bowler who could never perform well at the International level ! Wajahat Ullah Wasti : A failed batsmen who was given chance again and again but could not prove anything !
Saleem Yousuf : Even I dont know who this guy is !
If we have such selectors who have always failed in the International Events , then who can we expect them to select a better team then themselves !
Shame on PCB on having such good for nothing selectors, where are our stars of the past ??
Considering Sohaib Malik and Kamran is a crime, when will we learn ? Learn from India how they have overhauled their team and become the best team , we have no shortage of talent and class players just need to select the younger lot so they can prove their mantle.
No use of hafeez if he is not bowling . He will be a 20 30 run batsmans in Australia. Where is asad shafiq and fawad alam.
Looks like fine team building for WC. All the best.
INMHO, Yasir Shah in place of raza hassan, leg spinners are always handy in big Aussie grounds. Adil in place of Anwar Ali and Fawad Alam in place of Sohaib Maqsood.
Come on PCB..... How can you drop Fawad Alam and consider Shoaib Malik??? In my opinion Hafeez should be dropped as well and instead you should promote Sarfraz Ahmed to be opener. Bilawal Bhatti hasn't impressed either.. In my view it should be: Misbah, M. Rizwan, A. Shahzad, Y. Khan, H. Sohail, F. Alam, S. Maqsood/U. Akmal, S. Ahmed, S. Afridi, M. Irfan, J. Khan, W. Riaz, E. Adil, A. Ali, Y. Shah/R. Hasan
What a comment - Super Great :-)
"Kamran Akmal ? Could this be real ? I think Kamran will have to kill someone in the field to get out of this team because I am pretty sure he has tried all other methods."
Please include fawad alam. Fawad alam ki jagah kisi aur ko include karna mulk aur fawad alam pe zulm hoga.
Fawad Alam? How can you not include Fawad Alam? Allah khair karay.
Kamran Akmal ? Could this be real ? I think Kamran will have to kill someone in the field to get out of this team because I am pretty sure he has tried all other methods.
if hafeez cant ball then there is no need to take him instead give a chance to asad shafiq/azhar ali or go with fawad alam...
For Heaven's sake plz include Shoaib Malik, what an asset he is to Pakistan cricket, not being utilized aptly. Malik's inclusion as a middle order batsman is must if Pakistan Team is to stand in chance in WC!
For heavens sake don't include Shoaib Malik. He's a spoiler and create rifts within team, same applies for Kamran Akmal.
