The 52nd death anniversary of Sanobar Kakajee was observed at Peshawar Press Club on Monday. The event, organised by National Party (NP), was also attended by Kakajee’s grandson Advocate Imran Khan and NP Provincial President Mukhtar Yousafzai. Others present on the occasion included Awami National Party (ANP) Central General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain. Speakers highlighted Kakajee’s struggle for labour rights. They said Kakajee rendered countless sacrifices for Pukhtuns and their culture. The participants pointed out his struggle for freedom was documented in Pashto magazines such as Islam and Shulla, while he also translated Umar Khayyam’s verses into Pashto. They spoke of the political and scholarly life of Kakajee, who was born in Kagawala, Peshawar. The speakers said he was a great personality of his time.
