DCO unhappy with food inspectors

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal on Sunday reprimanded flood inspectors for failing to control food adulteration in the city.


He said chairing a meeting of the Food Quality Control Board at his office.

The DCO was informed that complaints about food adulteration had increased. He was told that a large number of unregistered food factories were being run in the district. He was told that some food control officers were being bribed by a mafia.

The DCO reviewed the report by the food inspectors and remarked that the Food Department needed to take immediate steps to improve performance.

He said inspectors had failed to curb adulteration.

He said the Food Department should launch a crackdown against those involved in food adulteration. He divided Faisalabad into six sectors and assigned two raiding teams for each sector. The team includes officials of the Health Department, veterinary doctors, TMOs and officers of the local administration.

The DCO said the teams should find the “big fish” involved in adulteration.

He said they should regularly check quality of food at hotels, restaurants, marriage halls and cafes.

He said unregistered food factories should immediately be sealed.
