Moving forward: Bajaur gets its first fire brigade system

Free medical camp set up to train farmers on their cattle’s health.

KHAR: The political administration of Bajaur Agency was provided with its first fire brigade system under the FATA Urban Development project on Friday.

“There was no proper system to put out a fire in case of an emergency in the agency,” said a political administration official, Irfanuddin, who was the chief guest at the event held to mark the occasion in Khar.

Although the agency has witnessed many incidents of militancy and insurgency, it does not have a bomb disposal unit (BDU) or a quick response force (QRF) to deal with any untoward situation, said Irfanuddin. However, the government has realised the intense need for these security mechanisms in the agency and has thus provided a fire brigade system to the political administration, he added. “Training is also being given to employees to make the system effective.”

The political administration in Bajaur is keen in this regard and has ordered to make arrangements for all emergency response programmes, claimed the official.

Training workshop

The livestock department of Bajaur Agency arranged a free medical camp in Shenkai Alizai area of the agency on Friday. Medics at the camp checked over 500 animals and provided free medicines for the cattle brought to the camp.

A training workshop was also arranged to brief farmers regarding diseases pertaining to their cattle and their treatment. “The farmers were educated about procedures for treating water and food deficiencies in their animals,” said a livestock department official, Dr Ahmed Younis. He added workshops and free medical camps will also be held in far-flung areas of the agency.
