Police on Friday had recovered the body of a five-year-old boy from the rooftop of a local mosque and arrested two suspects in connection with the murder.
On Saturday, SP Saddar Ijaz Shafi Dogar said that they had arrested five more suspects including the son of the prayer leader of the mosque where the boy was found and the brother of the prayer caller.
“The prayer caller is a prime suspect because the body was recovered from a locked room on the roof of the mosque and it was his room,” explained Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains.
He added that all suspects remain in police custody as police awaits results of the forensic reports of the suspects. He hoped that the case will be solved within three days.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the family of the child protested in the Green Town with the dead body. However, they ended their protest peacefully after CCPO Wains assured them that the criminals will be brought to justice within three days.
The child was later buried following a funeral which was attended by a large number of people.
CM Punjab, who had taken notice of the incident late on Friday, asked the CCPO to ensure the culprits are arrested and the family gets justice.
Another local police official, Abu Bakar Siddique, confirmed the incident, adding that the investigation was currently focused on the cleric.
M*, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was accompanying some friends on a fund-raising initiative for Eid Miladun Nabi (SAW). According to his friend, Bilal, all the friends were collecting money when M* disappeared during a sudden power outage.

@Hamid Hameed:
WB; Do not make a sweeping statement and exclude Pundits. Indian films are full of pundit criminal stories. India is the second largest country population wise with hundreds of thousands of pundits; all of them can never be saints. One story is enough for this type of discussion in the media.
A Peshawary
Very sad to hear that. Whoever is behind the happening, should be punished without seeing their stature in the religious authority. Condolences from India. Please take care of your kids and all others leaving religious differences apart. :)
@Kamran Brother I am an Indian Muslim but let me tell you one thing, You can not generalize for all mosques, Government has nothing to do with Mosques or my religion. The only thing requires is general awareness. Mosques are made for prayers not for such vile crimes, Take action against Culprit not the Mosques.
No doubt it is one of the wrost and tragic incidents and culprits should be brought to justice as soon as possible. All people are requested to kindly restrict their openions to culprits and not to Masajids and Islam. You can't blame it for all Imaams of the Masajids please hold your bad language against Islam. You people find excuses to attack Islam un-necessarily.
I really can't express my anger at the moment - Pakistan is a fail state, our politicians are corrupt, liars, hypocrites and they are equally responsible for inhuman act. They should be held responsible for getting the state to a point where civilians are getting to deal with such issues.
These savages should be hanged publicly and in numbers and bring fear in those who even dare think along such lines... Masjids are meant to be for our prayers.
Just imagine the amount of shame this incident will bring to muslims.. but hey that doesn't count cause we are just too busy killing and declaring our minority sects of Islam terming them as infidels or non-muslims!
My blood boils, My heart cries.. I feel abandoned by my own people.. I cry for peace, I cry for justice.. They shed blood and they call it an act of virtue..
Disgusted yet again. It is like reliving a nightmare over and over again. If a society that pretends to be so God fearing produces the likes of such evil acts in the end, there is something drastically wrong.
@Zahid: They identify themselves with a Supreme Being (God), only through meaningless religious rituals. Life long daily practice of these rituals desensitize them. Their faith in Supreme Being and religious teachings also become meaningless. Let alone God, they are not faithful even to their parents, siblings and friends. Desensitized Religious Mindset knows not the meaning of life, beauty, grace, neighbour, peace, respect, love, purity of soul, duty, work and happiness. All religions regard carnal pleasures to a degree of a deadly 'sin', yet guarantee 'divine forgiveness' through meaningless rituals. They kill to get away with their crime or they put blame on their victim- the devil incarnated- who enticed them into committing a 'sin'.
@Zahid:
"Why is it that mullahs, clergy of church’s, pundits in temples and all so-called religious people of so many faiths have one thing in common… they sodomize young boys and some of them then murder them?"
Pundits in temples don't do that. But self professed godmen and gurus do that. Asaram Bapu, Rampal, Nityananda are some of the examples. And none of them are pundits in temples. They have brainwashed millions of idiots and established their own ashramas with millions of black money.
Get your facts straight.
It proves that religious up bringing is overrated. Secular upbringing is no less effective than religious upbringing
This act is totally unbearable and horrible... but I wonder how superfacially we analyze the things... A boy physically assaulted in masjid(only dead body found in masjid not even proved that any person from masjid administration) lead us to believe that masjids are not safe and we start blaming molvis but we need to understand its not the molvis its the sick nature of our society thats leading to such events. My question to those questioning integrity of person with beard will be wat about students who get such treatment in universities or colleges? Should we stop respecting our institutions??? I think answer will be big no.....what we need to realize is that we need a better system where bad people are not selected for roles that they don't deserve and they should be punished for bad acts as per Islamic laws. and most of the problems will be solved. Just like death sentence(punishment as per Islamic Law) is now re-implemented after it was suspended due to pressure of european countries and we had to face its consequence....
Why is it that mullahs, clergy of church's, pundits in temples and all so-called religious people of so many faiths have one thing in common... they sodomize young boys and some of them then murder them?
People should stop donating any money or food to madrassas or mosques who are like parasites to our society. All mosques and madrassas should be nationalized. if you want to do any good deed you can do it for local govt schools or edhi centers.
The culprit should be tried in speedy courts and hanged in open grounds. However, the mosques and madrassas should not be blamed for these acts. Hundred of thousands students are studying in madrassas. They are part of our society and living as good citizens like students studying in schools.
These custodians of the mosques are real devils. National security plan should particularly focus on criminals who use mosques as there headquarters. These people resort to petty crimes when police or army are active against them, but later after the operations, they keep on committing heinous crimes. NSP should recommend building more and more Death Rows and, the hanging till death should be the norm of National Security Policy for next two years, to eradicate all terrorists and 'gentleman' thieves.
In Pakistan only terrorist can be hanged. these type of criminal has protection since zerdaris regime. criminal help criminal.only Allah can help us , there is no hope to get justice in Pakistan.Police is corrupt judges are scared . Government is impotent. Where to go?
All mosques and madrassahs seem to be dens of these nefarious activities... The moment we protest we're termed Islamophobic or anti-Islamic...
For such an incident the violators needs a Deserted place. A we have destered our mosques
The culprits should be hanged after speedy trail
Now the Khadam Aala will take notice and we will never hear about it again ever.Remember 17 June in Modal Town and Killing of PTI worker in Faisalabad? Have you ever heard about it again? Our Elec Media Mogals are party to these crimes. Military Courts need to pay attention to terror Sympathizers first.
I don't even have words to describe how horrific this is - what kind of a place do we live in where people who do this go scot free? What kind of sick animal ( I wouldn't even honour them with the word human being) would do this to anyone, let alone an innocent child? May the child's soul rest in peace IA, may God bless him with the finest honours in Jannat.
More evidence that the government needs to take control of all Mosques. There is no place safe and just because some has a beard, it does not make them a better person.
this is more heart wrenching than the Peshawar massacre, other than the number of victims. We need national action plan for crimes like these as well
Roof of a mosque. Now who will have access to it? Is the suspect(s).
Molested in Mosque, Killed in mosque. What has happened to our mosques.
