KARACHI:

A Malir district court sent a man to jail on Thursday for allegedly detaining a woman  for a month and raping her several times. The judicial remand was given after the victim identified him and recorded her statement.

The suspect, Bilal, and his four accomplices have been accused of kidnapping a mother of three from her house in Ahsanabad on December 2. They kept the woman hostage for nearly a month and allegedly raped her several times.

When the woman’s husband complained, the police managed to arrest Bilal from Ayub Goth but his four accomplices are still on the run. Despite interrogation, the police were unable to trace the woman, who was later found blindfolded near the SITE Industrial Area police station on December 30.

The police presented the woman before the fourth additional district and session judge, Malir, to record her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. According to the victim, the suspects warned her to take back the case or else they would harm her husband and children. They also snatched Rs80,000 from her, she added.

The investigation officer said that a case was registered against Bilal, Ejaz Shah, Imtiaz Shah and two unidentified men, under Section 496-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
