The drought in Thar

Letter December 29, 2014
I do not believe the PPP government has transformed Thar into something like Paris

LONDON: Mr Taj Haider, General Secretary of the PPP Sindh, in his letter to this newspaper on December 28, claimed that the PPP government in Sindh has installed water facilities allowing for millions of gallons per day water treatment facilities in Thar district, which has helped overcome water shortage by the struggling, thirsty households of the area.

By looking at Mr Haider’s claims, I can only think of two points: 1) the entire 1.6 million population of Thar district does not like the provincial government led by Mr Qaim Ali Shah and is playing a drama on news channels to conspire against him; 2) the provincial government has created these RO plants only on paper and has used the funds elsewhere.

I do not believe the PPP government has transformed Thar into something like Paris or that the Thari people have any interest in becoming part of a conspiracy against the provincial government.
