On December 19, the government had detained Lakhvi under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) in the Adiala jail for 30 days, shortly after he was granted bail by an anti-terrorism court.
Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi, while accepting Lakhvi's application, temporarily suspended the notification of Lakhvi's detention order, and directed the suspect to submit a surety bond of Rs 100,000 while asking him to ensure his presence in every hearing of the case.
The court also decided to take up the matter after January 7, 2015.
During the hearing, Jahangir Khan Jadoon - the standing counsel representing the government - asked the court not to suspend the detention order and requested for more time as the IHC had issued notice to the federation and sought its reply today.
Lakhvi, through his counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi, had challenged the detention orders, terming the directive ‘illegal’. The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that ATC had granted bail to his client, but the government is flouting the same orders by not releasing his client.
According to an official of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), the basic objective of the detention orders issued after the attack of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar was to prevent Lakhvi from attending any public meeting and potentially regrouping in its aftermath.
Sources in the ICT administration had further said the capital's authorities also requested the Punjab home department to issue orders for Lakhvi’s detention to prevent him from moving to his hometown Okara.
Currently, the alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks is being kept in Adiala Jail alongside six other suspects allegedly involved in the Mumbai attacks.

Heaven seekers will never be ashamed of any human brutality whether its Mumbai attack or Peshawar carnage.Courts had released numerous terrorists in Pakistan and now they are killing innocent people, but is not a matter of concern for corrupt judiciary.International courts should try these Judges , politicians who protect these savages and enemy of humanity and Islam.
Pakistan, the next time, you grieve your children alone
@Dark Knight: Really?? You are laughing now? How civilized of you.
India needs to be given a shut up call . Pakistan's judiciary cannot be intimidated or hustled into denying the accused due process of law. Justice cannot be blind just if India wishes so.
Pakistani prosecutors were denied access to Ajmal Qasab repeatedly and all the evidence fabricated by India is fake and cannot be relied upon as time and again RAW's involvement has been proven in many such cases.
Why is Pakistan govt and media not putting up the facts for all to see.????
@Dark Knight: Really? When was that? There was 2 minute silence in Indian schools and Indian parliament. This was based on diretion y Modi who you have been old is a Muslim hater. Please widen your sources of information beyond Zaid Hamid.
Pakistan:
I had sympathy & in our office we even observed a minute of silence for the innocents who departed in peshawar attack.
All that I feel now is pity. For your children & future generation.
You will be destroyed by the very flame you are helping glow. It may cause some 1st degree burns to India at times. But, it will end up causing 3rd degree burns within pakistan. It has already happened, it will only hasten. And your future generation will be ruined.
If possible - fight against this.
The judicial system was corrupt always but now timid as well the judges our scared of terrorists they do not see the circumstances and consequences of their decision. Lal Masjid case is a perfect example mullah burqa is openly challenging the constitution of the country killer of military officers sits on government property in the heart of the capital. Thanks to the judicial system. Dr Arsalan case was a Noora kushti.
Pakistan cannot and will not overcome the judiciary non sense until their are military courts with speedy trials or martial law for next 5 years. Corrupt politicians with no national spirit are fighting for power and seats one trying to undermine the other. One corrupt and powerless govt. goes the other comes. Opposition had never been healthy, mullahs run the streets the judiciary and govts. Are fearful of them. Five years of martial law will clean up the present situation.
Army and the nation is at war with mullah forces TTP and children are being killed but the mullahs are openly supporting the terrorists and timid judiciary is bowing before the terrorist. Mullah burqa is challenging the law and the govt. if judge issues arrest warrents govt. is unable to comply. PMLN had promoted Mullahism how can they finish it what is read in papers are mere statements nothing can happen without martial law. Whole judicial system is afraid of the terrorists.
to all Indian and cynic trolls, have you any proof about the accused to be prosecuted and detained further, how many peoples sentenced and be put behind the bars when 1000s of kashmiri peoples have been killed assaulted, torched and even women being raped
Indians were laughing out loud at Peshawar massacre. NOW whose laughing. !!!!!!
Is Pakistan promoting terrorism or fighting a war against it ?
The judiciary is compromised. Purge the judiciary.
good move by pak.
Let's face it : Pakistan does not have the resolve or the gall to fight terrorism. Period
@Hassan and others
Instead of bashing the courts, kindly bother to point the fingers at where its due. This is about police and witnesses and the support these jihadiz have among PK public.
How the court can go against the law when the case presented before is weak ?
Courts go by the law and not by the wishes just because PK people are emotional.
@Parvez:
"Our judicial system is broken….beyond reapir."
The fundamental problem in this case is not the courts. It is the policy of keeping the good-terrorist strategy alive. Lakhvi is a good-terrorist.
Maulana of Lal Masjid's arrest would spark protest, Lakhvi's detention would put judge's and his family's life at risk. So the next best thing Don't arrest the maulana and release Lakhvi.
Good going Pakistan in fighting terror!
Our judicial system is broken....beyond reapir.
And Pakistanis were upset when US TV show Homeland showed pakistan as a terrorist supporting country. Come on guys, atleast to fool the world show that you taking some action.
Congrats Pakistan, and its Judicial system. the well known monster walking beside every common Pakistanis and you should be proud of him for his deeds. Allah saved him for the sake of Pakistan. Sure in feature Rawalpindi style school attack happened in India, every proud Pakistanis would congratulate Hafiz/Lakhvi & Co. for their deeds. Think if we leave Sadvi / col. Purohit out of our jail and encourage them with state backup by suppressing all the evidence against them.
Your own Taliban commander said that Pak army has used them for Jihad against Afghan and Kashmir to serve their purpose before Afghan War.
The following above steps were expected by every Indian. no regret for that, but we are looking at how low the Pakistan can fall.
Sorry to say but it is true.... the system in Pakistan has reached a stage from there their no point of return is expected for your own good.
Plan prepared in Pakistan. Persons came from Pakistan. They got directions from pakistan and executed task in India. I think Pakistan should provide the SABOOT rather then asking.
All NGO class women who are speaking against Military courts need to rub this news on their face instead of makeup.
2.The relation with Pakistan should be limited to consular level( tier 2 level).
All kinds of visa and Track II dialogues should be reduced.
