QUETTA: At least four suspected members of an outlawed organisation were arrested Sunday morning during a joint search operation carried out by police and Frontier Corps personnel in Quetta’s New Saryab area.

“An important commander has been arrested among the four,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Saryab Imran Qureshi told reporters. A large cache of arms and ammunition was also seized during the operation. He said police and security forces have launched a joint operation in the area.

According to police, a map and some literature was also recovered. The suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location for questioning.

In a separate search in Wadat Colony of Quetta, police found a suicide vest near a drain storm. “Around 12 kilograms of explosives were found near the suicide jacket,” a police official said. However, no arrest has been made in this regard.

Security has been beefed up in Quetta in the wake of the deadly attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. Security forces and police have increased their patrolling and snap checking in sensitive areas.
