“The accusations from the MQM are unfortunate and untrue. I understand that incidents like these are unfortunate but it is everyone’s responsibility to come forward in such incidents,” said Memon.
Further, the provincial minister said that PPP MPA Javed Nagori visited the site of the fire at 5am while Farooq Sattar visited the site at 10:30 after the fire was almost extinguished. “The government’s machinery was present and fully active,” Memon asserted.
Memom went on to add that Sattar’s claims that MQM’s Faisal Sabzwari called him were untrue.
“My phone has been on all night and I have been in contact with media persons. These accusations are being simply about political point scoring,” he added.
The minister said all available resources were dedicated to put out the fire and that the situation would have gotten worse if the city’s administration had not reached in time. “The administration put in all their effort to calm the fire and no lives were lost thankfully,” said Memon.
“To go there [fire site] for a photo session is not the way we do politics,” he said.
Further, he announced that the Sindh government will compensate those who have lost their shops and valuables in the fire.
“If my resignation will help make the situation better, then I am ready to hand it in. But I would also like to ask the people whether anyone from MQM resigned when big incidents happened on their watch?” he said, adding that there would be an inquiry into this matter.

Sind is the worst governed province in the country..........I doubt anyone will dispute that apart from the PPP-Z.........and in private many of them will agree.
Pakistani Law enforcemnet agnencies must be freed from any political influence so any criminal wing of all political parties must be eliminated for good. PPP and PMLN are becoming cancers for Pakistan.
so says the spokesman of the wadera corruption party that has looted and destroyed Karachi by its criminal insatiable greed and ethnic hatred
If any body show them Mirror then they cry that their govt is being destabilized. Since this evening AAZ is crying that Sindh govt is being destabilized. How strong footings PPP govt. is standing on !.
Mr Memon I hope you remember the slap, even after getting that you never resign and learn the lesson.
Dirty politics between political parties have not only ruined Pakistan, but also people from every walk of life.
This is called democracy. "Jambhooriat Ka Husn".
This is why silent majority of the people would like to have martial law in Pakistan.
Because no one from MQM resigned so I will be as bad or worse than them!
That argument is at the crux of the problems facing Pakistan. Because the others have done bad things so I am also allowed to do the same or worse. I guess logicians need to visit Pakistan and try to make sense of this new found logic..
What a way to get your a__ saved. Kindly resign if you have the guts to.
I Have just one question to Mr. memon. Where he was when this incident initiated? where was CM sindh? where they all were sleeping? Not even Commissioner karachi was on spot. As witnessed what i saw on TV That Arounf 3:00 AM of Pak time Only MQM chief Mr. Altaf Hussain appeared on All the TV channels and he requested every one to help the victims and he instructed his Party member s to reach at site. MQM workers and MNA, MPAs were present at site and they did their best in their capacity. where the sindh governmentat this time, Not even single telephone call to any TV channel to update the peoples about the incident conditions. Now its enough Mr. memon peoples of karachi knows very well who is their supporter and who is standing with them during any difficult time. I guess its time for PPP to do only some small part of rural sindh politics. This City and other urban areas of Sindh belongs to Altaf Hussain Only because peoples witnessed the service MQM providing to peoples of karachi at their door step. as a Proud karachites my love and hats off to MQM leadership and Their workers.

Only accusation? Mr. Sharjeel Memon, why did Sindh govt take 12 hours to conduct 'only press conference'? Karachiets witnessed that MQM workers, lawmakers and coordination committee members were present at fire site to monitor rescue operation. Did you or any representative of Sindh govt visit fire site in Lyari?
