The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has never supported militant activities and terrorism in the country, JI Karachi spokesperson Zahid Askari said on Wednesday in relation to the protest demonstrations held in front of Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq, the party headquarters, a day earlier.
Askari said that the 'handful of pseudo-liberal and secular elements' should have looked up JI chief Sirajul Haq's statements on the Peshawar school tragedy before asking the party to denounce terrorism.
He added that Haq had stated that the militants who claimed responsibility for targeting innocent schoolchildren did not deserve to be called humans, let alone Muslims. "He even led the funeral prayers of two children martyred in the attack."
He said that the protesters wanted to initiate a hate campaign against the JI using the pretext of the Peshawar school carnage. "The JI leadership is part of the committee formed to chalk out the national plan of action against terrorism," he said.
