District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zaman Wattoo said on Monday that a district disaster management authority would be set up in Bhakkar.
Talking to newsmen, Wattoo said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had approved constitution of a quick response disaster management force in the district.
Earlier, Wattoo presided over a meeting of the District Emergency Board (DEB). He sought a report on requirements for setting up a disaster management authority.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Commissioner Altaf Hussain and officers of the Health, Social Welfare and Police Department. Representatives of Rescue 1122, trade unions and NGOs were also present.
Wattoo was briefed by the district emergency officer on matters related to the board.
Wattoo told the meeting that the disaster management force would work in collaboration with police, Rescue 1122, bomb disposal squads and the Elite Force.
He said the district disaster management authority would be the first of its kind.
He said similar disaster management teams would later be set up for all districts of the province. Wattoo said a citizens’ cell had been set up to get their feedback and suggestions regarding the district disaster management authority.
