ATC-V convicted Sher Muhammad and Muhammad Mureed for the abduction of Syed Navid Ahmed and sentenced them to 25 years in prison.
According to the prosecution, the convicts had kidnapped Navid on April 10, 2012, from Manghopir Road when he was returning home from work in his car.
The abductee's brother, Syed Urooj Ahmed, informed the Manghopir police about the kidnapping and registered an FIR.
On April 13, police raided a house in Surjani Town on a tip-off, a gunfight ensued with the kidnappers and eventually the police arrested them.
The captive was safely recovered and two unlicensed weapons were also seized from them.
No ransom had been demanded from the family.
Announcing the judgment, the ATC-V judge, Javed Alam, observed that since no ransom was demanded, the accused have been charged under Section 6 (2) (e) of the Anti-Terrorism Act which involves kidnapping not for ransom but for taking hostage.
For possessing illegal weapons, Muhammad and Mureed were also sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of Rs50,000. If they fail to pay the fine, they will have to undergo six months of additional jail term.
Muhammad was tried separately under the juvenile code as he was underage at the time of committing the offence.
