President Zardari announces cash rewards for national women's cricket team after team won gold at Asian Games.

ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday announced cash rewards for the players and coaches of the national women's cricket team after the team won gold at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

Speaking at a reception for the team at the presidency, Zardari announced cash rewards of Rs500,000 for each player and Rs200,000 each for the coaches.

He said he hoped the precedent set by national women's cricket team would provide motivation to other potential women's athletes to bag more victories and bring laurels to the country.

‘We are a talented nation with potential to rise in every field. The important factor is how it is groomed, guided to maximize its true potential’ he said.

Pakistan women's cricketers created history when they won the events first-ever cricket gold at the Asian Games after a ten-wicket win against Bangladesh in the final.

Pakistan, who were unable to make an impression in the 2010 World Twenty20 or the women's’s Challenge Cup held in South Africa recently, were boosted by the absence of India and Sri Lanka from the event.

The team won all four matches in the games.
