The Karakoram Highway (KKH) was finally reopened on Monday evening after three days when the district administration of Kohistan issued release orders for nine people detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.
The strategic highway was blocked on Saturday by villagers and members of different political parties protesting against the arrest of nine people who were part of a demonstration that blocked the KKH on November 3.
The blockade was in protest against the death of a minor girl due to the alleged negligence of doctors at a government hospital.
DSP Headquarters Safdar Khan told The Express Tribune on Monday that the protesters have opened the road following negotiations with the administration and issuance of release orders by DC Zafarul Islam.
