The first incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Town police where unidentified men shot and injured constable Ilyas Khan. Khan was on duty on University Road near Khyber Charsi restaurant when he spotted a group of carjackers in a parking lot.
“Khan saw carjackers trying to steal a vehicle. He tried to intervene when the accused opened fire on him,” said an official of the local police station while talking to The Express Tribune. The attackers managed to escape on motorbikes, added the official. “It is not an incident of terrorism,” he said.
Khan was rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital where his condition is said to be stable. Doctors said the constable was hit in the area below his ribcage. A search operation was launched in the area but no arrests were made till filing of this report.
In the second incident, a Mathra police mobile was targeted in Molazai Chowk on Sunday. Police said the vehicle was ambushed by unidentified men who opened indiscriminate fire on it.
