Later, talking to private TV channels, Shaikh said Indian media was unnecessarily trying to create a controversy. “The behaviour of Indian media is beyond comprehension,” he said, adding that the media used extremely inappropriate language and raised objection to the way Pakistani players celebrated their victory.
“After the match our players danced ‘Bhangra’ which is our tradition,” he said.
The Pakistan Captain Muhammad Imran said after the match Indian viewers reacted as if India had lost a war. “They threw bottles at us and shouted slogans but we celebrated our victory which is our right,” he said.
“Even the Indian team did not congratulate us on our victory,” he said, adding that India should not organise such events on its soil if it cannot bear to face defeat.
It must be noted that Indian media raised objection when some Pakistan players removed their T-shirts after the victory.

It was Shehnaz's fault he should not have offered apology as Indian volley boll team after wining gold in saarc games Islamabad also celebrated by removing shirts and and dancing in the court at that point where was Indian media tit for tat.i remember Indian player showing middle finger to Pak crowds in malaysia sultan azlan shah cup 2years ago on live tv..so india players and media need to judge themselves first before complaining. well said by captain if you do not have the courage to face defeats do not host any further matches in the India.
Taking Shirt off to celebrate i have no issues, as Suarave gangooly also did at lords. This is for Indian friends here. However showing finger to the crowd was in appropriate as PAK players should have acted with maturity.
Also the loose bad behaviour, bad language, throwing bottles in the ground by not individual but by masses (crowd) of India shows how big a loosers they are not even in any sports ground but also in general in their daily lives..
Crowd was misbehaved. But for our players to behave the way they did was wrong. As someone else said, when they play for the country they are not just players, they are informal ambassadors.
@Azi - "Ok so where did you learn to poison guest’s drinks while they are living in your luxury hotels, just because they are a Pakistani cricket team?"
Not sure about the poisoning part, but if it happened, then again we picked it up after watching your behavior. Same goes for thrashing the Kashmiris cheering you.
If you recall the Chennai crowd gave a standing ovation to the Pakistani cricket team, after Wasim Akram's team took a victory lap (victory against India) at Chidambaram stadium. One hasn't seen similar sportsman spirit in Pakistan..
If Virat Kohli shows the finger he is just cute. If Pakistani hockey players do it, they are uncivilized and have no sportsman spirit.
@Azi: Pakistan has never taken defeat sportingly. The borders become hot after every defeat of Pakinstani team.
@Parvez: Showing the middle finger to family audiences is the norm? Why did the Pakistani coach apologize and guarantee that such behavious would not recur? No one objects to bhangra or even players going shirtless.
The reaction was not to the loss but the obscenity.
Even our crickter Virat Kohli showed us his middle finger during the matches. we should not give importance to these issues.
@SS: I have seen all 10 Photos on the prescribed link, but did not find any photo where any Pakistani Player is showing Middle Finger. May be you guide me which of the 10 photos is where Pakistani player(s) have that act against Indian Public.
@Milind:
Ok so where did you learn to poison guest's drinks while they are living in your luxury hotels, just because they are a Pakistani cricket team?
Or what makes you guys assault your own people just because they have their own views about something as petty and simple as their fav. team?
You guys have 0 (Zero) sportsman spirit, your aim was to invite and hope for a win so your insecure fans can display they same behavior you find so sour from players well entitled to present it to you.
Tbh, not only have you guys destroyed cricket, now hockey as well but more importantly your image in world sports community. They today know that playing against you and winning can carry a cost.
So you guys dance Bhangra by showing middle finger? We have slightly different guestures in Indian Bhangra.
@Azi: When you know that Indians will always react like this, why do you agree to play in India or against India?
"It must be noted that Indian media raised objection when some Pakistan players removed their T-shirts after the victory."
Wrong. They pointed out that the pakistan players were showing middle finder to a crowd and passing lewd comments. Deceitful reporting. No wonder pakistan society is the way it is.
It is shameful on the part of Pakistan to indulge in regrettable behavior on sports field. India and Pakistan have won and lost games against each other and it is no big deal Games are won and lost, but sportsman culture once lost is lost for ever. Behaviorally Pakistan has lived up-to their expectations. Congrats.
@Junaid: or people with boorish behaviousr should not be allowed to play and Pakistan must make arrangemnts and INVITE teams to play on their soild which will not happen
Players are expected to behave better even if provoked by the crowds. For the fans, it is just entertainment of a few hours, for the players it is their lives' worth. These moments are what define them as professionals and representative of their countries. The fans will forget this game and buy tickets for future ones while these photographs will go down the history/ magazine pages/ memories BUT, let's not get swayed too far by our own emotions, Pakistan won, India lost. That's fine. Let's move on.
From India- Players are expected to behave better even if provoked by the crowds. For the fans, it is just entertainment of a few hours, for the players it is their lives' worth. @Azi - "Indians always…ALWAYS react in some sour taste after a defeat, they just cannot take it from Pakistan"
This behavior has been acquired by us Indians after our past experiences playing with you, especially the anti-India jibes & attitudes from your cricket players - Majid Khan, Javed Miandad etc. and spectators in Sharjah. E.g. Majid Khan has said that playing with India has been a jihad. Miandad has been making anti-India statements and the Pakistani crowd in Sharjah cheered him and leered Indian players. Miandad tried to repeat the same during 1992 world cup and our wicket keeper Kiran More retaliated.
Let CashMeri election be over, real hockey will be played on the fields of Kashmir, Northern areas and Baltisthan. Whole field will become part of India minus wana be Bedouin fools. Umpires from west cant do much, just as they cant do much in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.
Pakistani players should not have made obscene gestures but indians are pathetically narrow minded... The indian media doesnt point out the hooliganism of indians towards pakistani players... Nor does the indian hockey federation see that... pathetic people really these neighbors of ours... You provoke someone with such inhospitality and you'll get what you got... just read a post on the most racially intolerant countries and india and jordan are on top and surprisingly pakistani rank amongst the most tolerant... and somehow we have the perception of being terrorists... These indians really are dirt of this world...
Pathetic display of sportsmanship form India. Reminds me of Afridi's words that indians are small hearted... The way the crowd behaved... absolutely pathetic
@Rakesh: Families, Ahhhhh! are these the same families enjoying dancing semi naked women in IPLs. I think men putting his shirt off is a little crime compared to this.
It was a great hockey match that ended badly! The teams should be aware as to what celebrations are allowed as in football.Even in football you can't show your middle finger !!You would be put away for a long time for sure. India and Pakistan are two nations on the brink,be it sports or politics.People on both sides are forever at each other. What more can one expect!?Too much hatred and ill-will and this cannot be wished away. Some day sense might prevail.
India has beaten Pakistan in hockey several times in the Commonwealth Games and Asian games and also in all matches in the cricket world cup but you don't see them behaving like this after a victory. It's not about who wins or loses; every team has it's good day and bad day. Netherlands is the best team but they still lost; honestly their defeaters showed no such behaviour. What matters is the behavior and reaction shown after the match.. Gloating and abusing spectators who have come with their families and children is simply unacceptable
@Rakesh: This Has Also Been Done By Saurav Gangulay and Virat Kohli So Stop Complaining
@HZR:
You do know that this match has happened in India, and the supporters were the people who actually threw vulgarity first...and also threw bottles. Why should we respect that? We came here to play and we played, we won to and our reaction was a response to the Indian supporters who were abusing Pakistan throughout the match.
@Jim: you really need to see the old videos bro before commenting
@Rakesh: look this civilized monkey of very civilized nation!!! Ha ha ha crying after defeat is nothing new for this Indianz. So keep crying and learn to bear defeat!!!
@Indians: by your whining it looks like India is the most civilized nation in the world. Mind you all the modern abuses are born through your films :p
Btw, how many times Pakistan has lost to India in cricket world cups? Ever seen any such behavior from Indian players?
India canot bear his defeat but i am happy with pakistan
The Indian cheapness and meanness is at full display when they lose a game especially against Pakistan. It will remain a nation of cheap and mean Banias. Pakistani team could not celebrated their victory in a more befitting way. Bravo Greenshirts!
if your women can take their shirts off in movies, reality shows then whats the point to target players... like or not the reality is you have been defeated at home by PAKISTAN. live with it
Pakistani players please behave yourself. Showing middle finger to crowd is acceptable. That was poor sportsmanship and show of your culture.
Yeah that's it, only ONE player showed the finger and your acting like the whole team with the coach was posing for a picture showing the finger. Yes we did take of our shirts, didn't Indian players take of there shirts when they won the Asian Games? Also your okay with girls dancing in stadiums but not males taking of there shirts. Can you be more of a hypocrite?
Indian media should just admit that Pakistan won and stop focusing on worthless stuff, The Indian players didn't even congratulate the Pakistanis, why aren't you focusing on that? Of course you wouldn't, your holding a international tournament and don't know what sportsmanship is
“After the match our players danced ‘Bhangra’ which is our tradition,”
if this is the culture of pakistan, then we would've gladly lost to your women team several times over...pointing middle finger to the crowds who are hard to find for a hockey game, you are not doing any service to the game.
First of all, congrats to the players (Pak) for winning -- this was said even by the India captain Sardar Singh. Yes it is possible, nay likely that the idiotic vulgar displays by the winning side was an unfortunate and emotional reaction to 'incidents' they encountered from some India supporters in the course of the match -- when it comes to "vulgarity", there is not much to separate idiots of either country -- each one unfortunately has got way too many... these things could have and should have been handled by the security and other officials during the course of the match. All that having been said, if the Pakistan team (who are supposed to be "brand ambassadors" of their nation, no less!) had not reacted in the way they did (and confined their displeasure display to more civilized forms) it would have given THEM and their country/fans the moral high ground in every sense. Since that did not happen, it only goes to show that "at heart" both countries and its citizens are likely from the same stock, when it comes down to it...
@Usama: Pakistani hospitality?? Yeah right. That's why no one tours pakistan and that's why pakistan "hosts" their matches in Dubai or Abu dhabi...
biased indians......they are the people who never tolerate Pakistan winning......welldone team Pak......u made us sooooooooo happppppppy......indians are mentally sick people....instead of blame game.....they should accept their defeat
If this is the way to celebrate and at that in a host nation no wonder no one wants to visit or play with Pakistan India too should have taken a similar stance. There are so man dignified nations with whom one play the game with courtesy and dignity.
@Naila: pls know the truth first... see the tv footae in indian channel... such behaviour unacceptable... compare this with indias wil over pakistan recently... sometimes we win sometimes u... but bad behaviour gives a bad name... player must apologise
It is done in football and although a bit childish........ making a ' thing ' about it is a bit ' cry-baby ' like.
Players remove shirts all the time in football. Also if the crowd does not like what they see they should stay quiet not abuse players and attack their ethnicity and religion And when the players react to the indecency of the crowd a controversy is created by the indian media. That is why I hate media cause all they do is create controversy and we let them do it infact we add petrol to the flame and media succeeds in creating hype and thus increase their ratings. The world media is a devil. If not for the media indians would not be crying now nor would Pakistanis on their high horse retaliate
so predictable....
@Rakesh: Througing bottels and chanting against winning players will make you civilized,, right?
@prabhat: Keep crying :) The point is India lost it and now all Indian have lost their minds!
Hahaha Gud job greenians...
indians..... please apply cold to the burnt area.......
@Sargodhawalla. :How can you allow this sick comment from this extremist hindu. He posts sick comment all over ET. And you allow it? WHY?? This is derogatory to Pakistan and offensive. Unacceptable.
Which part of his comment is derogatory? which part of his comment is sick? Now I get a feeling why he abuses 180 million Pakistani. You simply can't stay to logic. Had you been you would first condemned the "middle finger" gesture of your team.
@Sargodhawalla.:
You didn't find the Pak players' behavior sick?
Indian media ka Rona dhona!
Tribune.. Show pics of Pakistani players showing middle fingers.. As one of Pakistani friends mentioned here, sports or any such activities shouldn't happen between these countries.. There is no point in over trying to be friendly and all...
i knew my comment will not be posted. But, it was directed to media. Please stop agitating your people by giving wrong news.
pakistani bikini show, do that in pakistan only
@wb: How can you allow this sick comment from this extremist hindu. He posts sick comment all over ET. And you allow it? WHY?? This is derogatory to Pakistan and offensive. Unacceptable.
If Pakistani players have shown middle fingers to crowd for whatever reasons it is not acceptable to me as a civilized person and I'm from Pakistan. If I were incharge of the team I would have immediately dismissed the players involved and sought apology to the crowd.
oh god.. !! such an irresponsible media..!! that's the reason common masses in pakistan always agitate against india. Please have a look at this :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A70Co9hahdc
if this is a 'Bhangra' according to pakistani media, then, i guess, you are badly mistaken. No dance form, leave alone bhangra, allow the dancers or so called players in this case, to show their Middle Fingers to the audience. !!
@Rakesh: Keep crying..
@Naila:
"First they lose and then they cry. Such sportsman ship -.- and from the home side too! "
Are you naive or stupid or just plain bigoted?
I want you to do the following steps, since you live in Austraila.
1) Type www.youtube.com on your web browser and hit enter.
2) Type "Hockey Champions Trophy Pakistan victory celebration" in the youtube search bar and hit enter.
3) Click any of the video that the search results in and watch it.
india shudnt have sports teams. have u seen how their fans go crazy when their team looses.in cricket, they dont even spare.the.players, indian.players in the past have insulted.their fans.too saying they didnt need fans who didnt stand with them
How else you want media to react when , players opening shirts and showing middle finger to audience. And the home crowd will always support home team, why to expect from , the subcontinent crowd is the same what india what pakistan. This article is just one india bashing aarticle, one sided biased article, facts totally concealed. Again distorted facts just to fool the pakistani nation.
Why are they not writing the truth :
That they showed finger to crowd and Indian player and made other inappropriate demeaning gestures .......
Do you think Indian mind shietlessness and bhangra ?
As always, Tribune is spinning yarn. Why didn't you print the photo from the opposite angle, with players showing middle finger to spectators. The photos are all over the net.
First they lose and then they cry. Such sportsman ship -.- and from the home side too!
Come to pakistan, and you will be treated with utmost respect. There will be indian flags in the crowd and no one will be abused for cheering for your country- even a RIVAL one.
What the tournament dorector - who by the way is nit Indian - said makes it clear that the way the Pakistani players behaved was considered beyond acceptable norms. It is nt doing the bhangra which people objected o but rather removing the shirts when family audiences were watching. The Pakistani coach had even apologized. He is clearly changing his tory for the Pakistani media.
"Champions Trophy tournament director Wiert Doyer came up with a statement which obviously was not along expected lines. Here is ehat the tournament director said: "At the conclusion of the semifinal match between India and Pakistan... the celebration of the Pakistani team contained some behaviour that warranted further investigation by me as Tournament Director. As a result I have spoken to the head coach of the Pakistan team, Mr. Shahnaz Sheikh and told him that the behaviour of Pakistan players went beyond what is acceptable to standards of the FIH... It is difficult to find any particular miscreant, and it is possible that the behaviour of the players may have been a reaction. Mr Shahnaz Sheikh has apologised and assured me that this behaviour will not occur again. Given these matters, I've decided that no further action is warranted," Doyer said in his statement. "
jealous indians could not comprehend.. They have no issues while allowing semi naked women to dance after every boundary, have issues with men removing shirts... Such a shameful nation indians are..
Guys this was a match PERIOD. We have angry home crowds everywhere in the world. Congratulation Pakistan! Good Fight India! Lets keep playing in good sportsmanship. Indian Media, you can still bring in more income by staying neutral!
The Pakistan Hockey Team deserves to be congratulated on two counts - First, for winning a pulsating match and Secondly, for giving us a display of Pakistan's famed "Culture" after the match.
It's a sport. You win some, you lose some. It's times like these when you have to accept your loss honorably and display sportsmanship, like our team and fans have done every single time we faced defeat. It saddens me that our neighbors weren't able to reciprocate this sportsman like conduct.
This is called "ek to chori upar se seena jori"
its really shameful pak media is hiding the actual news. Reporters raised question on indecent behavior of pak player after win. showing middle finger or abusing crowd is no decency. probably showing middle finger is matter of proud in Pakistan.
This is a real face of India. Aman ki asha is only one tamasha created by Indian puppet GEO
Strange reaction ...nationalism is to blame. The Indians should allow Pakistanis their sparing bits of glory. I hope Indians do not celebrate if Pakistan loses the Final today. It is time both India and Pakistan bury their communal devils.
Is ET that scared now that it will not report the news in a fair manner? The Pakistani players made obscene gestures at the crowd and the Indian players, and the videos are available on several Indian news sites - which is disappointing considering that they played brilliantly and should have just enjoyed the applause. Removing shirts is hardly something that anyone can complain about.
Bravo team Pakistan this is what we were waiting for.Indian team didn't get anything but india media got a lot to spit their venom about.its the matter of their rozi roti they will starve to death if they don't develop hatred.they cant stand a tournament going without some masala especially when poor india is losing:-)
True that. You are throwing bottles, chanting lame slogans throughout the match and in the end expecting the other team to show some ethics... In Pakistan however, whenever Indian team arrive to play a series, we use to show hospitality to them. I still remember Pak India cricket match in Karachi back in 2005 where crowd equally supported Indians despite the fact we lost it by 5 runs. If you are unable to show sportsman spirit, you should not expect anything in return too..
Peace
Well this is very much expected from India! They can't digest it.
indian media... pls accept defeat gracefully... u win some and u lose many!!!
Congrats Pakistan.
That ugly display is celebration?
Pakistani players were vulgar to put it mildly.
Nothing good ever comes out of Pakistan.
Right! blame the media. Have a look at the following link which has a photo of these 'heros'
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/hockey/2014-fih-champions-trophy/top-stories/Champions-Trophy-Pakistani-players-shame-game-with-lewd-gestures/articleshow/45509782.cms
LOL, shock that indians are sore losers... just read the comments they post here and you wont be surprised at the team's reaction!
Disgraceful act of going topless and showing middle finger to hosts which included children and families.Caution to families:: Please do not come for watching the finals, we have some uncivilized bunch of idiots in town, idiots who do not know how to behave in a foreign country. Shame on you and your uncivilized upbringing!
Completely agree, if the Indian hockey fans and players cannot bear to be defeated then they shouldn't hold a world tournament. The celebrations were on the far end of acceptable but, in my opinion, they didn't go too far - you see similar/identical celebrations in major football tournaments, and they are rarely spoken about. Good luck for the finals, boys!
Have you not realized it yet? Indians always...ALWAYS react in some sour taste after a defeat, they just cannot take it from Pakistan. No sportsman spirit at all.
