Attacked: Activist beaten up by drug peddlers
KARACHI:
Suspected drug peddlers attacked and injured a social activist outside his residence in Quaidabad on Saturday after he complained to the law enforcement agencies against them. Javed Afridi sustained injuries when drug peddlers attacked and beat him up within the limits of Shah Latif police station. Afridi heads the Khuldabad Welfare Society, formed by residents against the spread of drug-selling and street crime in Afridi Colony. “Teenage boys from the area have become addicted to drugs and commit thefts to support their addiction, so we complained to the police and the Rangers,” he said, adding that drug peddlers Saddam, Aziz and Kaka had beaten him and fractured his nose. Shah Latif SHO Ali Hassan Sheikh said that he was not aware of the attack and vowed to take action against the accused. “I have personally arrested Saddam five times, but he was released by the courts each time,” he said.
