At least four people, including a child, got wounded on Wednesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a filling station on Quetta’s Saryab Road.
According to Saryab Police Station Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Imran Qureshi, the IED was a timed device rigged to a bicycle, which was parked on the roadside. An official of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) said around three kilogramme of explosives were used in the IED.
Following the blast, police, Frontier Corps (FC) and rescue workers rushed to the site and threw a cordon round the area. The injured were transported to Quetta’s Sandeman Hospital where all of them were said to be out of danger. The victims were passers-by.
“It is premature to say anything about the possible target of the explosion,” Imran Qureshi told The Express Tribune, adding that police have started an investigation into the incident. Another police officer said the FC and police frequently patrol the area and that banned Baloch organisations have carried out such attacks against security forces in the past.
However, no one claimed responsibility for the attack till filing of the report.
