ISLAMABAD:

A three-day polio drive will resume in the capital from today (Thursday) after being suspended for two days due to the prevailing ‘political uncertainty and unavailability of law enforcement officials’ to provide security to health workers, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

The campaign, which began on December 8, was suspended by the deputy commissioner due to the ongoing protests of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the capital.

Meanwhile, according to the information gathered by the National EOC, more than 60 per cent children were inoculated in two days of the national polio campaign across the country.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, 20 million and 663,368 children were vaccinated by 184,950 polio teams in the first two days across the country.

Data reveals that 1 million and 222,495 children were not available at their homes during the two days.

Polio teams will visit to cover the not available children during ‘catch-up’ days beginning today (Thursday).

Furthermore, Punjab has extended the polio campaign by two days up to Friday.

State health minister Saira Afzal Tarar visited the National EOC to review conduct of the campaigns and said “Accurate data will help us strategise better and work with provinces on plugging gaps and addressing issues.”
