FAISALABAD: A polio worker was killed in Faisalabad on Tuesday when unidentified armed men opened fire at a polio vaccination team just a day after Taliban insurgents claimed the killing of two policemen assigned to protect an immunisation team.

Muhammad Sarfraz, a 40-year-old school teacher at Rehmania High School, was administering polio drops along with his team in the city's Peoples Colony when the incident took place.

"Gunmen on a motorcycle fired six shots and he died on the spot," senior police official Ali Waseem told AFP.

He said it was not clear whether Sarfaraz had been attacked by militants opposed to polio vaccination or because of personal enmities, which had led to two previous attempts on his life.

Doctor Rana Waqar Sadiq, a senior health official, confirmed the killing of a member of his polio team.

Express News reported that the vaccinators were not assigned a security team.

Polio workers are the most brave people who work towards preventing a crippling disease in kids despite all the threats on their life. They are the real heroes-unsung heroes. These terrorists are the worst of people. They are cowards .They can't fight US or Alliance forces,so they practice their murderous instincts on innocent people.Even worst are people who consider these murderers heroes.
