FAISALABAD/ ISLAMABAD:

Calling the Faisalabad shutdown a historic and resounding success, PTI chairman Imran Khan announced a countrywide day of mourning for PTI worker Haq Nawaz who was killed during clashes with PML-N workers earlier in the day.

“People across the country will offer Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza and express their anguish over the killing of the PTI activist,” he said while addressing a crowd at D-Type Colony Chowk where thousands of PTI workers staged a sit-in throughout the day.

“We will take revenge. Haq Nawaz’s sacrifice will not go to waste,” a visibly enraged Imran told his supporters. “Now, I will go to Karachi myself to motivate PTI workers for another historic shutdown. I’ll tell the rulers that their tyrannical rule is not acceptable,” he added.

The PTI chairman thanked the people of Faisalabad for “defying threats and coercion from the government” and making the shutdown call a ‘huge success’. “I’m also thankful to the traders and lawyers of Faisalabad who gave a vote of no-confidence against the fake government,” he said.

Imran said that “the Sharif brothers believe in suppressing the democratic rights of people and running the country like a police state. But now their days are numbered. I’ll not allow them to stay in power with oppression and terror”.

He said that the Sharif brothers first killed 14 innocent people in Lahore’s Model Town, then four people in Islamabad, followed by firing on PTI supporters in Gujranwala and Jehlum. “Now, Rana Sanaullah and Abid Sher Ali have killed my young worker, Haq Nawaz. This time we will not allow them to go scot-free,” Imran vowed.

The PTI chief said that he could not be coerced into giving up his struggle and that he would fight till his last breath. “The politics of violence and highhandedness of the Sharifs will not work and they will be brought to justice,” he said and shouted, ‘Go Nawaz, Go’.

Earlier, Imran Khan reached the Allied Hospital where he enquired after the health of the PTI workers who were injured in clashes with PML-N activists. He also visited the house of PTI worker Haq Nawaz who was shot dead near Novelty Bridge.

Sympathising with the bereaved family, Imran said he would not forget the sacrifice rendered by Haq Nawaz who “laid down his life for a noble cause”. The PTI chief described Haq Nawaz as “a hero of the struggle for liberating Pakistan from the clutches of the Sharifs’ tyranny”.

The PTI has convened an important meeting of its core committee on Tuesday to discuss a future course of action following the killing of its worker in Faisalabad.

Sources told The Express Tribune that Imran Khan will chair the core committee meeting which will discuss strategy for the planned shutdown of Karachi and Lahore.

Haq Nawaz, a young soul from Faisal Abad, was shot dead without committing any crime. His only crime was to participate in a protest meeting arranged by PTI on the call of Imran Khan. Haq Nawaz's life was ended like the ones in Model Town and Islamabad. His life was sacrificed on the altar of democracy and change. What kind of change and democracy we want in Pakistan? Do we have any blueprint of this system or we are driven by emotions and hence, directionless? I know the masses are not happy with the present economic situation. Lawlessness, abduction for ransom, corruption, price hike, adulteration, poor medical facilities and falling standerd of education to name a few. The people of this country have always been longing for a radical change and struggled in different stages of their lives to see them come true, but alase, they were deceived each time, and ignored after clinching power at the top. I am afraid the same may not happen. Parties hide their manifestos from their workers and inreturn the workers don't have the courage to ask for the programme of their party and due to the ignorance of the programme they are caught up in personality cult and are easy to be used as horses for riding to Islamabad. Unfortunately, this has been our history in this country.

The only tyrannical rule I see is that of Imran Khan who lords over his party and lets his simple brainwashed followers incite anarchy and trouble. This sore loser thinks nothing of having people killed or the damage he is doing to the country's economy. All because he can't accept election results and because he is a sore loser. Ro Imran Ro!
