PESHAWAR:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq urged the central government to announce talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the earliest. He was addressing seminary students at a ceremony in Sheikhabad Park on Sunday where he also announced JI would be launching another movement, this time from Karachi.

Siraj said JI will continue to play its role in stabilising the country through reconciliation. The political crisis is far from over, he added, urging the government to negotiate. “Why not form a judicial commission to investigate poll rigging if you have done nothing wrong?” he asked, directing the question to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He warned political circles “the events of 1958, 1977 and 1999 would repeat themselves” if they do not set the house in order. He said the government is mistaken if it believes the storm has passed with Tahirul Qadri’s departure. “The situation may spiral out of control any moment.”

He added both PML-N and PTI will have to shed their egos to resolve the deadlock. Siraj hoped the new chief election commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Raza Khan will work towards restoring the faith of the public in the ballot.
