LAHORE: The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman led the Friday prayers at The Grand Bahria Town Mosque in Lahore. The world’s seventh largest mosque was teeming with over 125,000 faithful.

Mufti Mohammad Akmal Ata, the chancellor of Al-Furqan Academy, delivered a special sermon. Allama Mohammad Bashir Ahmad Farouqi, chief patron of Selani Welfare International Trust, offered special prayers and also mentioned Malik Riaz for his endeavours in the upkeep of the mosque.

People present at the occasion prayed before God Almighty for the security of the country.

The Bahria Town management had made elaborate arrangements for the security of the congregation. The hall and ground were packed and people were offering prayers on the greenbelts and the galleries and roof. A large number of women were also present in the segregated section.

Hundreds of people come from other cities and towns to offer Friday prayers at the Bahria Town Mosque.

At least 25,000 people can offer prayers inside the main hall of The Grand Bahria Town Mosque. The spacious structure is said to be Pakistan’s biggest mosque. Its 165 feet high four minarets and big dome surrounded by 20 small domes present a unique model of Pakistan and Islamic architecture. The mosque has over 50 chandeliers. Labourers took four years to fit around four million tiles from Multan that give the mosque a traditional aura.

The completely air-conditioned mosque has a very peaceful ambiance and separate sections for women whereas Islamic education and art is also taught here.
