MULTAN: A woman was attacked with acid in Muzaffargarh on Friday. Police said 30-year-old Maryam*, a mother of five, was attacked by five men who first tried to kidnap her. They said when she screamed and called for help, they threw acid on her and fled. She was taken to a local hospital and later referred to Nishtar Hospital in Multan. Emergency Director Pervez Haider told The Express Tribune that she had suffered 65 per cent burns. He said she was in a critical condition. Police said a case had been registered and raids were being conducted to find and arrest those responsible. Separately, a woman was burnt after her husband threw boiling water at her. Police said Afshan Bibi, 25, had an argument with her husband Muhammad Bashir over money. They said neighbours called them when they heard her screams. They said she told them that she had put hot water in a bucket to bathe her son and was waiting for it to cool when her husband came in and demanded some money. She said when she refused, he emptied the bucket of water on her. Bashir was arrested.
