Corporate social responsibility: Warid donates Rs1m to GCU

LAHORE: Warid Telecom donated Rs1 million to the GC University Lahore Endowment Fund Trust for scholarships for financially disadvantaged students. This is the third year Warid has provided funds for the Trust’s need-based scholarship. Warid Telecom Director Amer Aman Khan handed over the cheque to GCU Vice Chancellor Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman at a ceremony held at the GCU Syndicate Committee Room. Endowment Trust Fund Executive Committee Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt was also present. The vice chancellor said there was a dire need for corporate organisations to come forward and support quality education in Pakistan. He said universities all over the world had grown through endowment funds. Their alumni and the corporate sector helped them expand, he said. “Harvard University has an endowment fund worth billions of dollars,” Rahman said. Khan said the youth were the future of Pakistan. As a responsible corporate entity, Warid Telecom has always been at the fore in supporting youth initiatives, he said. He said the GCU was a remarkable institution. It was a privilege to support the bright students of such an esteemed educational institution.
