The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday rejected a petition against the recent appointment of advocate general (AG) for Islamabad.
Justice Athar Minallah rejected the petition filed by Muhammad Ashiq Bhatti, a resident of the capital, who requested the court to declare the appointment of Mian Abdul Rauf as the first AG of Islamabad illegal. The court observed that the petitioner did to produce a copy of the notification, therefore the petition has been rejected.
Rauf was appointed by the federal government last month through a presidential order. Additionally, the petitioner had argued before the court earlier that the government had not posted the notification of the appointment on any official website or other forum, and had requested IHC to order that the notification be produced in court.
The petitioner had also stated that the government was bound to make an amendment in Article 140 of the Constitution before the appointment as under the law the post of AG is for a province and the governor of the province makes the appointment.
