The government on Tuesday suspended the principal and three lecturers of Government Degree College, Jutial after a clash between student groups left three people injured on Monday.
According to a statement issued from the Gilgit Information Department, Principal Sarbaz Khan, lecturers Fida Hussain, Amir Jan Haqqani and Munawar were suspended on the orders of Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Sikandar Sultan Raja.
Action will also be taken against the students who were involved in the violence, added the statement. The clash had erupted between two groups of students over a religious event held on the premises of the college.
The groups belong to two different religious organisations. To prevent further violence, the administration has closed the college for a week. In addition, religious leaders are being consulted to settle the issue amicably.
