The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Nowshera Executive Engineer Nasir Latif Baloch for his alleged involvement in the purchase of substandard transformers at exorbitant rates.
Baloch reportedly purchased electric transformers for which PHED was not authorised. Moreover, the advertisement for the purchase of transformers was allegedly devoid of vital information.
Furthermore, according to NAB, the transformers purchased were not of the brand approved by Wapda/Pesco and were below specifications, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer. It was also revealed during the enquiry that some transformers are still lying idle in hujras of people.
NAB K-P is actively pursuing the enquiry, with more arrests expected. The accused will be produced before an accountability court to obtain physical remand.
