US Secretary of State welcomed progress on improving Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and termed it a step towards regional stability.
He assured General Raheel of his country's full support to Pakistan in this regard. Kerry also acknowledged Pakistan's role in fighting terrorism and its sacrifices.
He praised Pakistan Army's professionalism and termed it a truly binding force.
DG ISPR Asim Bajwa also took to his twitter account this morning to announce a productive meeting between General Raheel Sharif and John Kerry.

Eh, how much can they be discussing? Gen. Sharief has been there for quite a while now.
@Muhammad Usman:
"What a ‘proud moment’ for Pakistan. The Army chief meeting foreign minister of USA. He must have discussed ‘professional’ issues related to an army that is ‘foreign’ to Pakistan."
Good satirically stated truth. This picture of the Pak army chief discussing foreign policy with US Secretary of State (foreign minister) says it all about who control Pakistan's foreign policy. Can't imagine such a thing happening in any other democratic country.
@Tyggar:
We love our Army dude.
Say what you will but we will never ever stop loving Pakistan Army because they are the ones who stand guard, risk their lives against the massive numbers of the Indian Army.
The thing that worries me though, is that in this photo Gen Raheel appears to be pinching Kerry (look at his other hand), thats just too much affection for my liking.
Nothing new in words expressed about the visit or meetings of 2 weeks,Pakistanis have lot of time to spend out side on non-productive visits on state expense.
@Blithe: You're right! I only stopped by to see if John Jerry is taller than him too, lol. And, ofcourse the size of the office of powerful U.S. Senators who decide our fate. I know they are found away from the office, doing fieldwork 90% of the time.
@Tyggar: You Indians never waste time in spitting your venom on Pakistan and your 38 raw agents supporting your comment.
@Muhammad Usman: Great comment
The Americans laid it on strong and thick.....now lets see if Raheel bought it.
@Tyggar: And here come the cry babies! I was just sorting the posts; where are the Indian Agents and Pakis with deformed & twisted brain cells growth. You guys will never win over true & loyal Pak citizen but only the haters. And they are as far less here than across the border. You guys are wasting time & energy on tea & WiFi, lol!
Why are we reading do much into it ?
He reports to the Pakistan PM and is coordinated with the Govt .
I can not understand the interest of our neighbor when our Army chief is visiting to US. haan i suppose they only dream that their Army chief gets this type of protocol. he stay for 10 -12 days visits to many institutes there it is none related to you. You just first take care of the number of jets crashed in your country , naval ship accidents and suicide of 450 soldiers. @ tyggar you come to Pakistan and live you will see a different life here, then in your country.
I think after the successful trip of the COAS, we must say Go Imran Go and Ro Imran Ro for the sake of more successes in future for Pakistan... Imran wants to destroy the country but God and people of Pakistan will protect it from enemies like IK and Qadri.
Compared to the visit of prime minister who was on a family vacation on public money in US a month back, the visit of army chief shows the depth of the home work done by military establishment. Hats off to everyone for such a constructive visit. The prime minister should have a close look at the toilet paper the next time he visits the loo.
this is how we want it. We can not leave most of our matters in Pakistan on civilian politicians who only know how to do corruption. Most of the times, USA was with us doing most of the job. We need to ask them to "do more" for changing our military equipment and integrate affected people.
Dear Tyggar, you are absolutely right and not only India but Afghanistan also suspects the role of Pakistan regarding trust
Anatol lieven writes in his famous book, In the past decade Pakistan has emerged as a country of huge importance, and one that is increasingly being pulled in several different, irreconcilable directions. Its development of nuclear weapons, Osama Bin Laden’s presence in its unpoliceable border areas, its shelter of the Afghan Taliban, and the spread of terrorist attacks by groups based in Pakistan to London, Bombay and New York, mean that there is a clear need to understand this remarkable and highly contradictory place. “Pakistan A Hard Country”
What I think The people of Waziristan, Kurma, Para Chinar, Dir, Hangu, Bajore and other agencies remained the ruthless victims of barbaric air strikes, drones attacks, assassinations and ground operations of Pakistani army. On the other hand, they forced to put them in sectarian, religious and ethnic conflicts. It was Pakistan judicial and executive wings utmost basic responsibility to facility them in fulfilling their human rights in all walks of life but unfortunately the Pakistani state sustains the same brutal law FCR (Frontier Crime Regulation), where legally the tribal zone inhabitants kept away to have no access to court, appeal and argument.
@Muhammad Usman: The new COAS steps into the footsteps of ex COAS Parvez Musharaf!
Rex Minor
US administration says that they won't attack the taliban that are not attack US forces and will only take action against those militants who directly attack US & its interests in Afghanistan.
Its funny that our foreign minister Sartaj Aziz also made a similar remark that Pakistan would only take action against those militants and miscreants who are active in anti state activities and won't touch those that are not anti state but US made a fuss about the statement and created hue and cry about it so much so that minister had to give clarifications in order to appease US administration.
If US differentiate between good Taliban and bad Taliban on Afghan side of its border then its OK and Kosher but if Pakistan takes a similar initiative on its Pakistani of border to reduce some of its headache then US administration starts whining about it.
@Careful reader: . foreign policy and security policy was never in control of the civilian government and it is well known to all( neighbors) including Washington.That is why USA talks with the army chief instead of Prime Minister.
isn't he receive Protocol of Head of state ????
So he went to USA twice in a month? This should have been the FM of Pakistan instead of COAS. What message this gives to the world and the public in general. Who is calling the shots. Link this to the political turmoil in the last few months and the power game becomes clear to everybody.
It is interesting that Mr. I.Khan has not criticized the General's long visit so far and did not call him a slave of the US, he reserves those comments only for the two day visit to the US of the PM
@Tyggar: Which comic book do Indians use for history lessons in their schools? According to your version of history, black is white and day is night. Keep living in fool's paradise, until reality slaps you in the face.
I hope the General discussed the issue of drones. If he didnt he is violating his oath of protecting Pakistan by beinf negligent.
@Tyggar: mostly accusations. And its quite apparent that what you are putting down is Indian narrative not Pakistani. Please end you obsession with Pakistan. Unless you do that you would never be able to stand up to China, despite US govt and Western media support.
NS feels safe as long as the general is away from the country :P
Rightfully so the army has taken over foreign and security policy away from nawaz .
@Ali: Pakistan is unsafe because of this army. Who conducted the genocide in bangladesh? Who attacked your more powerful neighbour three times and faced defeat each time and lost half the country in the process? Who let in the gun culture during the Afghan war with the soviets? Who started radicalizing Pakistan? Who allowed Osama to live next to their academy? Who sent in invaders in Kargil without even your political leadership knowing about it.? Who eats away more than half your budget? Who controls most major institutions in Pakistan?
No one wants to Invade you..what do you have that others will want? its like someone wanting to invade the local cesspool.
@Muhammad Usman: The supposed to be foreign minister is figuring out the good, the bad and the ugly Talibans!
The extended visit was possible after the US assured the Pak military that no Abbotabad type raid would be conducted during his visit.
@Muhammad Usman: Because of this army you are safe and writing ur comments. Dont forget that!
Looks like he fell in love with USA, so much that he does not want to come back home. May be he wants to control from there like the US controls the drones.
I thought he Gen. Raheel Sharif and Asim Bajwal have returned back to Pakistan. Did not know that they are still here.
What a 'proud moment' for Pakistan. The Army chief meeting foreign minister of USA. He must have discussed 'professional' issues related to an army that is 'foreign' to Pakistan.
This is odd for the army chief to be in USA for an extended visit. The magic that you created will fizzle out, Sir. Salams
