QUETTA:

A paramilitary soldier was killed and his two colleagues were wounded in an ambush  by militants in the volatile Kech district of Balochistan on Sunday.

“Armed men fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at a Frontier Corps vehicle in the Tump area of Kech and then opened indiscriminate fire, killing subedar Shireenul Islam and injuring two other soldiers travelling in the vehicle,” the paramilitary force spokesperson, Khan Wasay, said.

Shortly after the ambush, an FC contingent reached the site and mounted a search operation. The injured were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. Tump, which shares a border with Iran, is one of the most troubled areas in Balochistan where separatists have regularly targeted security forces and police. The Kech DPO survived two attacks in the same area this month.
