A delegation of marble sector businessmen called upon the government to take urgent measures to address their issues to promoting exports.
The delegation visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to discuss various problems faced by the sector. Addressing the delegation, ICCI Acting President M. Shakeel Munir said the country had immense potential to enhance exports and government should help improve the sector’s competitiveness to earn more foreign exchange.
He said despite possessing enormous reserves, Pakistan’s marble exports were still far below potential.
According to the delegation, high electricity cost, use of obsolete mining techniques, lack of capital, law and order issues in major mining areas, inconsistent power supply, insufficient infrastructure from mines to ports, improper transportation facilities were the major hurdles holding back the industry from realising its full potential.
