Collaborative effort: Two arrested for making spurious drugs

Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) said two men had been arrested on Thursday for manufacturing counterfeit products.


They said the FIA and DRA teams had also seized a large quantity of spurious medicines, fake labels, packaging material and seals in two raids. An FIA director said Muhammad Ramazan had been arrested in Sanda for illegally manufacturing Anne French cream and Iodex balm. The director said a case had been registered against the owner of the factory located in a three-storey building. Syed Aun Ali, a resident of Data Nagar, was also arrested for illegally manufacturing Vicks Vaporub. Tahir Barlas, the owner of the factory, managed to evade arrest. Separate cases have been registered against them under the Drug Act and the Copyright Act.

Separately, officials of the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) and the FIA conducted two raids in Kallur Kot, Bhakkar and arrested Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Zahid for running illegal gateway exchanges. Seventeen operational gateways were seized in the raid. The team also busted illegal gateways in the Ghaziabad area and arrested three people from there.
