For social reconstruction: Women leadership programme launched

Under the programme, UN Women will work with govt and key partners to support advocacy for integrating gender concerns

As Pakistan continues to face the effects of complex emergencies and natural disasters, very little importance has been given to the role of women in the process of social reconstruction, said speakers at the launch of the Women Leadership in Social Reconstruction programme.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the programme was launched with the financial support of the government of Denmark in Peshawar.

Under the programme, UN Women will work with the government and key partners to support advocacy for integrating gender concerns in peace initiatives to hold trainings on gender and peacekeeping and to strengthen capacity for gender-responsive policies and initiatives.

Speaking at the occasion, Danish Ambassador Jesper Moller Sorensen said, “By integrating gender concerns, we not only promote women’s leadership but also build communities that are disaster resilient.”
