Swat’s first polio case: EPI technician suspended for alleged negligence

A technician of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in Swat was suspended on Wednesday for allegedly being negligent in his duties after the district’s first polio case since five years was reported earlier this week.


According to a press release issued from the office of the deputy commissioner, Mahmood Aslam Wazir, issued orders of technician Abdul Kabir’s suspension after a polio case surfaced from an area which falls under his jurisdiction.

An enquiry had been initiated against Kabir, and if he was found to be guilty of negligence he will be sacked.

Meanwhile, on the directives of the provincial government, a team of the Swat health department will reach Turugay for a vaccination drive. Three more campaigns will be conducted across the district shortly.
