Immunisers’ woes: Cabinet panel to review security

Committee is convened to review the security apparatus in place to conduct vaccination campaigns in the country.

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government is planning to convene a Cabinet Committee on Immunisation to review the security apparatus in place to conduct vaccination campaigns in the country.

This was said by Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Ayesha Raza Farooq on Tuesday while she was chairing a National Steering Committee meeting, according to a press release. “There is a dire need to improve reporting and data collection mechanisms in provincial and district polio control rooms so that performance can be monitored,” she said.

Farooq stressed that stakeholders and partners need to effectively utilise the current low transmission season to halt the spread of polio.

She also appreciated the support of the army in the provision of secure access to compromised areas.

Representatives of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination informed that a comprehensive program of involving religious leaders at Union Council-level is being chalked out for high-risk areas to address refusals.
