The incident happened Saturday in the Kallar Kahar valley in Chakwal district, around 120 kilometres from Islamabad.
"The girl Rehana Bibi was alone at her home and was listening to music when her uncle Muhammad Gulistan... came to her house and asked to lower the volume," Sadat Ali, an official on duty at Kallar Kahar police station, told AFP.
"On her refusal, they quarrelled and Gulistan shot her dead," said Ali, adding that Bibi was aged about 17.
“He shot her with a 33-bore pistol,” police officer Qaisar Abbas told Reuters.
Another police official, Ali Akbar, said they were attempting to arrest the killer.
Police said they were not aware of any family feud leading up to the attack.
Women are frequently killed over minor issues or so-called matters of "honour". The Aurat Foundation, a campaign group that works to improve women's lives in Pakistan, says more than 3,000 have been killed for "honour" since 2008.

What is wrong with our country? Now people can't listen to music without getting shot dead?
@Hedgefunder: It's sad to see how Indians descend on this site to find an excuse to curse Pakistan. Senseless acts of violence happen all over the world. It should be coondemned everywhere. Obviously the man who shot his niece was unstable and he should be charged. He is a sick man but your blatent attempt to malign an entire country over the sick act of one person only exposes your own insecurity. Stop being obsessed with Pakistan and try to stop the daily rapes and murders which go on in Indian cities on a daily basis which far outnumber anything in Pakistan. There is a reason why India is known as the rape center of the world.
THis has nothing to do with 'honor killing'. Incidents like this happen in the West as well.
@Feroz: what a sick mind you have!!!! There are lot of tribal people which carry gun with themself everywhere and i m sure that her uncle must be repented on what he has done but may be this was written in her fate! despite of blaming we should pray for her soul !
@Chachoo: Well i totally condemn this horrific act of brutality but blaming ppl from KP or any other part of the country is unfair. There are good and bad ppl all over Pakistan. This division of race, ethnicity, religion has divided the nation. We all are Pakistanis and its time for unity. Hope police catches the culprit.
The gender issue can only improve if women, as men, are given decent education and employment. Development brings tolerance.. Pakistan's government has to change its priorities as it is at the brink of an abyss. To listen to music - how sick to consider it against the honour of one. Education fights ignorance....
Potohar division was one of the most tolerant regions of Punjab in the past but recently the influx of One group from KP have changed everything. The Sunni/Shia incident of Pindi was fanned by the same non locals and this incident is also undertaken by the members of the family who recently settled from KP in Kallar Kahar region.
Shoot this man staight away or transfer him into mental hospital where he could be treated for his mental health. But if we start treating such people for mental illness than almost half of Pakistan would end up in mental hospital.
What is going on with us... Why we have become such intolerant. This has nothing to do with extremism or honour issue. This is just showing that we have become wild animals. May Allah save us all and show us the right path.
The uncle came to visit niece Rehana with a Gun in his pocket ? If he has come with a gun, his intentions must have been very different, music being a mere ruse.
