Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Ansari said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast and the Naxal-belt was acute.
He added that complaints had been received about the misuse of laws such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in these areas.
Religious minorities in the cross-hairs
Ansari also touched on the state of religious minorities, who, despite constitutional and legal guarantees, continue to be the target of violence and discrimination, Indian Express reported.
Speaking on ‘Citizens and State Conduct’ at the VM Tarkunde memorial lecture on Friday, Ansari said weaker sections of society such as minorities, women, children and persons with disabilities were still facing discrimination.
“These cut into the root of constitutional principle of equality of opportunity and equal access to justice and highlight the failure of the state to act properly.”

Mr. Ansari, Your Congress Party is going to dead soon, Your Pseudo secular mantra will make sure that in next UP Vidhan sabha there will be merely 4 MLAs from Congress. BTW you should remember you are VP now not a Congress worker
"Speaking on ‘Citizens and State Conduct’ at the VM Tarkunde memorial lecture on Friday, Ansari said weaker sections of society such as minorities, women, children and persons with disabilities were still facing discrimination." What the Vice President of India Mr Ansari has said is true and worth attention. Unfortunately these problems of weaker sections, minorities, women, children and the disabled have acquired great dimensions in all the countries of our modern world. The only point is that the progressing and educated societies and countries accept and work to get over these problems where as the regressive and decaying societies or countries either deny these facts or sweep them under carpet.
@John:
You've been trying for decades now. Keep trying - J&K is where it belongs, firmly within India. You're free to do what you want, and that includes dying...
@Kishan: B-E-A-U-tiful ...
Keep dreaming..
@Kishan: Time for refrendum is long gone.Freedom or death and nothing else.If they wont give it to us,we'll carve it out of her belly!
hindu pandits are minorities in J&K and POK also part of india!!!
Just because of upcoming elections. So,Rest assured pakistan AFSPA will not be scrapped.
@Kishan: He didnt wake up. There is elections in 3 states including jammu and Kashmir. And he belongs to congress party. To gain votes of other parties into Congress's kitty they will offer such populistic measures. "If we come in power will make amendments" etc. it happens before elections every time we are used to our politicians culture. 2. Kashmir will never have referendum because people already vote and elect their govt there. And Simla agreement makes in bilateral between indo pak. No third person.
Dear ET, J&K minorities mean hindu pandits!!! they yet to get land and re-established!!! you people cry for 2002 but not for kashmiri pandits!!
Unfortunately, the rest of the countries in the world can't be as good as Pakistan in protecting minority rights.
Oh you woke up now hey? Let's see what you can do now. Nothing.. Simply talk and nothing.
Kashmir should have a referendum.
