Snooker: Toba upstages World U21 runner-up

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Asif Toba caused a big upset in the ongoing IBSF World Championship by defeating Ireland’s Josh Boileau 4-3 yesterday to register his second consecutive victory in the event which is being played in Bangalore, India.

Despite being 2-1 down, Asif managed to turn the tide against Boileau – this year’s World U21 Championship runner-up – to win with scores of 61-14, 25-80, 31-90, 60-15, 15-101(80), 88-13 and 54-36.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sajjad also bagged his second win of the competition by thumping Austria’s Dominik Scherubl in straight frames.

Sajjad, who had earlier beaten India’s IV Rajeev, won by 84-28, 74-50, 88-01(84) and 63-32 and is yet to drop a single frame in the tournament.

Young cueist Hamza Akbar also opened  his winning account after his first-match loss as he got the better of Egypt’s Hatem Yaseen 4-3 with scores of 70-06, 44-72, 95-14 (90), 43-66, 69-06, 58-68 and 59-17.
