Education does not end with merely acquiring a degree. It is a lifelong struggle of exploring new horizons and frontiers of knowledge.
This was said by nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand on Thursday at the 10th convocation of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU), where he was the chief guest. Some 568 graduate and postgraduate students including PhDs were awarded degrees in the field of Management Sciences, Electronic Engineering, Computer Sciences and Bioinformatics.
Dr Mubarakmand said that the role of higher education becomes more important in determining the position of a nation in today’s knowledge-driven economy.
“Higher education guarantees sustainable progress and assures a place of respect for both, the individual and the nation,” he said, while appreciating the contributions of the university and congratulating outgoing students and their parents.
Seven students got their PhD degrees including Adnan Riaz and Yasir Bin Tariq in the field of management sciences, Chaudhry Muhammad Asim Rashid, Syed Ejaz Hussain Kazmi, Safdar Hussain and Mubeen Ghafoor in electronic engineering, and Muhammad Naeem in computer sciences.
Overall, 10 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals were also given to the position holders in their respective fields.
MAJU Executive Vice President Dr Mansoor Ahmed congratulated the outgoing graduates and expressed hope that they will contribute to the scientific and technological development of the country to the best of their abilities and skills.
MAJU Chancellor Mian Amer Mahmood presented the university shield and souvenir to the chief guest.
